چکیده

The performance of parallel and serial concatenated codes on frequency-nonselective fading channels is considered. The analytical average upper bounds of the code performance over the Rician channels with independent fading are derived. Furthermore, the log-likelihood ratios and extrinsic information for maximum a posteriori (MAP) probability and soft-output Viterbi algorithm (SOVA) decoding methods on fading channels are developed. The derived upper bounds are evaluated and compared to the simulated bit-error rates over independent fading channels. The performance of parallel and serial codes with MAP and SOVA iterative decoding methods, with and without channel state information, is evaluated by simulation over independent and correlated fading channels. It is shown that, on correlated fading channels, the serial concatenated codes perform better than parallel concatenated codes. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that the SOVA decoder has almost the same performance as the MAP decoder if ideal channel state information is used on correlated Rayleigh fading channels.

Hybrid ARQ using Serial Concatenated Convolutional Codes over Fading Channels

In this paper, we propose and analyze a new hybrid FEC/ARQ scheme using rate compatible punctured serial concatenated convolutional codes (SCCCs) which is suitable for flat-fading channels. Puncturing increases the transmitted code rate, and the rate compatibility criterion allows incremental redundancy to be transmitted after each decoding failure according to a code-combining type-II Hybrid A...

Performance of Hybrid Concatenated Trellis Codes CPFSK with Iterative Decoding over Fading Channels

Concatenation is a method of building long codes out of shorter ones, it attempts to meet the problem of decoding complexity by breaking the required computation into manageable segments. Concatenated Continuous Phase Frequency Shift Keying (CPFSK) facilitates powerful error correction. CPFSK also has the advantage of being bandwidth efficient and compatible with non-linear amplifiers. Bandwidt...

Using multi-dimensional parity-check codes to obtain diversity in Rayleigh fading channels

In this paper, we investigate the use of a class of multi-dimensional parity-check (MDPC) codes as a simple and spectrally efficient means to obtain diversity in Rayleigh fading channels. We demonstrate that the MDPC codes can provide a maximum of 4 degrees of diversity, requiring only a minimal amount of added redundancy. We also propose two techniques, namely parallel and serial code concaten...

Performance Comparison of Serial Concatenated Convolutional Codes and Parallel Concatenated Convolutional Codes on Faded Channels

The performance comparison of Serially Concatenated Convolutional Codes (SCCC) and Parallel Concatenated Convolutional Codes (PCCC) is evaluated on Additive White Gaussian Noise model channel, which is used as a basis, and actions of SCCC and PCCC on Raleigh faded channels are evaluated in this research work. In DCS the SCCC and PCCC are utilized to reduce the bit error rates. SCCC and PCCC enc...
